Adult publishing at Pocket Books is being restructured into two areas, trade and mass market, and president Judith Curr announced a number of staff changes to reflect the new shape--including a couple of as yet unfilled positions.
Kara Welsh has been named v-p, deputy publisher, mass market and Star Trek, with responsibility for the whole mass market program, including MTV Books and Washington Square Press. She will also oversee the publishing programs of the house's significant hard-soft authors. A new position, v-p, deputy publisher, hardcover and trade paperback, is not yet filled.
Curr herself is taking on an additional role as editor-in-chief, with overall responsibility for all Pocket imprints. Meanwhile, editorial director Emily Bestler has been named v-p, executive editorial director, concentrating on acquiring and developing authors for the house.
Linda Marrow has the new position of v-p editorial director, women's fiction, and there is another new position, v-p, editorial director adult books, for which an occupant is also sought.
On the management side, Lisa Keim will take the newly created position of v-p, director of rights; she joins Pocket from Thames & Hudson in London. Sub rights director Robin Kessler will report to her. J D'Onofrio will come over from S&S as v-p, general manager, and current general manager Bill Seibert will take a position with S&S's corporate financial staff.
The children's publishing programs remain unchanged.
