Looking to extend its online educational offerings, Scholastic has redesigned and relaunched its Web site (www.scholastic.com) with expanded curriculum resources for teachers; new activities and features for kids and parents; and plans for a variety of e-commerce ventures down the road.
Scholastic CEO Richard Robinson said the site would "convert our millions of offline customers into Scholastic.com users." He also noted that by the fall of 2000, the site will expand its e-commerce capabilities to offer a variety of Scholastic titles and other products for sale online.
Judy Corman, spokesperson for Scholastic, told PW that the site features an expanded teachers' area with an emphasis on literacy skills and critical thinking. "There's more depth, breadth and useful material for teachers," said Corman. These features include the News Zone, an expanded books and authors sections (featuring, of course, an upcoming live chat and interview with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling on Dec. 2) and much more.
