HM Adds Element; CDS Buys Warehouse -- 12/13/99 The year-long trend of publishers moving to new distributors has continued into December. Last week, Houghton Mifflin announced that beginning April 1, 2000, it will take over as distributor for Element Books. Under the agreement, HM's trade and reference division will provide sales and fulfillment services to the U.S. book trade for all Element titles. Element is currently distributed by Penguin. Meanwhile, Client Distribution Services, a new distribution company founded by former Random House executives (News, May 3), has completed the purchase of the Random House warehouse in Jackson, Tenn. CDS currently has two clients, Harvard Business School Press and Taschen; both had been distributed by Random House. With the purchase of the warehouse completed, CDS is expected to soon add more clients to its list. |
