Grammy Nominees Announced

The nominees for the Grammy Awards, given annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, were announced January 4.

In the adult Best Spoken Word Album category, the nominees are: The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr., read by LeVar Burton (Time Warner Audiobooks); The Chieftains: The Authorized Biography by John Glatt, read by Nanci Griffith (The Publishing Mills); The Diaries of Adam & Eve: Translated by Mark Twain, read by Betty Buckley and Mandy Patinkin with Walter Cronkite (Fair Oaks Audio); Merle Haggard's My House of Memories: For the Record by Merle Haggard with Tom Carter, read by Merle Haggard (Harper Audio); 'Tis by Frank McCourt, read by the author (Simon & Schuster Audio).

The nominees for Best Spoken Word Album for Children are: The Battle of the Mad Scientists and Other Tales of Survival by Bill Harley (Round River Records); A Bug's Life Read-Along by Hayden Panettiere (Walt Disney Records); Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, read by Jim Dale (Listening Library); Let's Eat! by Sesame Street Muppets (Sony Wonder); Listen to the Storyteller by Wynton Marsalis, Graham Greene and Kate Winslet (Sony Classical).

The nominees for Best Musical Album for Children are: The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland by various artists (Sony Wonder); A Bug's Life Sing-Along by various artists (Walt Disney Records); Dreamosaurus by Dinorock (Rounder Kids); Ella Jenkins and a Union of Friends Pulling Together by Ella Jenkins (Smithsonian Folkways); John McCutcheon's Four Seasons: Springsongs by John McCutcheon (Rounder Kids); Mannheim Steamroller Meets the Mouse by Mannheim Steamroller (Walt Disney Records/American Gramaphone).

The 42nd annual Grammy Awards will be presented on February 23 at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
