Chapters Online Teams Up with CBC
Leah Eichler -- 5/1/00

E-commerce company Chapters Online will join forces with Canada's public broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., to promote Canadian literature. Under the new marketing agreement, visitors to Chapters.ca's site will be able to link to CBC.ca's literary content. In addition, Chapters Online will become CBC.ca's primary online book retailer. The public broadcaster's literary content is already available at www.chapters.ca/books/cbs, which the e-retailer hopes will help its customers decide which books to buy.

"The valuable content provided by CBC.ca helps our customers with their purchasing decisions, enriching their overall experience. At the same time, we are drawing additional attention to our country's leading authors and up-and-coming writers," said David Hainline, executive vice-president, marketing and merchandising of Chapters Online.

"CBC has always been at the forefront in promoting Canadian authors," noted John Lewis, executive director of new media at CBC. "Through this relationship with Chapters.ca, we can take the commitment to the Canadian literary arts to the next level... and the next medium." Canadian authors will not be the only ones featured on the new Chapters-CBC site. Two out of the three interviews currently featured on the site are with American authors Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard.

The new site links visitors to Chapters.ca directly to the entertainment section of CBC.ca, which carries the content of more than 20 CBC radio and television arts reporters as well as some 300 partner arts organizations across the country.
