Corpora Leaves Rodale
Jim Milliot -- 6/19/00

Pat Corpora, long-time president of Rodale's book division, resigned from the company last Friday, June 16, by mutual agreement. Corpora, who had been with Rodale for 20 years, has no immediate plans other than to take the summer off, a spokesperson said.

Corpora's departure comes as Rodale embarks on a 12-week strategic business review initiated by new president Steven Murphy (News, Feb. 28), which has as its goal positioning the publisher for growth over the next decade. An important part of that plan is expected to be an even greater push by Rodale into the trade market and less reliance on direct mail, the area of Corpora's greatest expertise. The company had its first national trade bestseller this past spring, with Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss.

In his e-mail to employees, Murphy thanked Corpora for his 20 years of service and noted that his "contributions will be felt for some time." Murphy added that he is confident that the book division, marketing services and Rodale Interactive units will "pursue initiatives that will enable us to achieve the level of creativity and profitability that the marketplace demands today."

No immediate successor has been named to replace Corpora; Peter Ig , v-p and general manager of Rodale Books, will serve as acting general manager of the division.
