Globe Completes Falcon Purchase
Jim Milliot -- 9/25/00
In the process of integrating line into its own operations

Globe Pequot Press has completed its acquisition of Falcon Press (News, Sept. 4) and is in the process of integrating the Falcon line into its own operations. Linda Kennedy, president and publisher of Globe, is heading the transition team that hopes to finish the bulk of its work within 90 days.

Globe will keep an office in Falcon's hometown of Helena, Mont., which will house an undetermined number of staff involved with title acquisition and other editorial responsibilities. Most other functions, including administration, customer service and some editorial and marketing positions, will be consolidated in Globe's Guilford, Conn., headquarters. Globe also expects to move Falcon's warehousing operations to its own warehouse in Tennessee by the end of the year. Falcon had 73 employees. Falcon president and publisher Bill Schneider will serve as a consultant to Globe focusing on "strategic opportunities."

Globe, which will publish 135 titles this year, expects its list to double in 2001 to between 250 to 270 new and revised titles. Falcon has an 800-title backlist. The Falcon imprint will be maintained, although a spokesperson said it has not yet been determined if sub-imprints such as FalconGuides, Two Dot or Insider's will continue.
