McGee to Head New Scholastic Education Unit Jim Milliot -- 11/13/00 As part of its effort to consolidate its educational publishing operations, Scholastic has named Julie McGee executive v-p for educational publishing, effective December 1. McGee had been with McDougal Littell for 12 years, most recently as president of McDougal, a subsidiary of Houghton Mifflin. She will report directly to Dick Robinson, Scholastic chairman. In the newly created post, McGee will oversee the consolidation of Scholastic's various educational publishing ventures into a single unit. The first phase of the restructuring will start in December, when Scholastic combines the education group, which publishes core, supplementary and technology products; professional relations, the company's outreach to school districts and associations; and Lectorum, Scholastic's Spanish-language book distributor. In spring 2001, Scholastic plans to bring its classroom magazine operation and Grolier Publishing into the new group, which Scholastic said has annual revenues of more than $300 million. A Scholastic spokesperson said no staff cuts are planned and that the restructuring is aimed at "bringing all our educational units under one umbrella." HM replaced McGee by naming Rita Schaefer president of McDougal as well as a senior v-p of HM. Schaefer joined McDougal in 1979 and most recently was v-p, national sales manager, for the division. |
