Tony Parsons's Man and Boy, just published here by Sourcebooks as one of the Illinois house's first ventures into fiction and published by HarperCollins in the U.K., was named Book of the Year at the British Book Awards sponsored by Publishing News in London last week.

Other awards included Bloomsbury as Publisher of the Year, for the second year in a row; Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass (Knopf here) as Children's Book of the Year; Zadie Smith, author of White Teeth (Random here), as Newcomer of the Year; The Beatles Anthology (Chronicle here) as Illustrated Book of the Year; Nigella Lawson as Author of the Year; Ernest Hecht of Souvenir Press for Lifetime Achievement; and the Booksellers Association's batch. co.uk, its online invoicing system, for Innovation.
