Chicago agent Joseph Durepos has made a further two-book deal for Toronto-based inspirational poet Oriah Mountain Dreamer, one a follow-up to her surprise bestseller The Invitation.Steve Hanselman and John Loudon, publisher and editorial director, respectively, at Harper San Francisco, made the six-figure world rights deal for a book titled The Call and another on writing and spirituality, What We Ache For....The story of a New York cop who went undercover and helped break the Mafia's stranglehold on the garbage industry in the metropolitan area, sending many mobsters to jail, will be told in The Last Empire, which Putnam executive editor Stacy Creamer has bought for a mid six figures, North American and first serial, from agent Richard Abate at ICM. The cop, who remains anonymous, will be aided in the writing by Doug Century, also an ICM client (of Sloan Harris).... A new novel by African-American author April Sinclair (Coffee Will Make You Black) has been sold for six figures to Hyperion's Leslie Wells in a world rights deal, with agent Winifred Golden at the West Coast's Castiglia Agency retaining first serial, audio and film; the untitled novel is about a young woman coming of age in a ravaged household.
