The judges also named two honor books in each category: Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath (FSG) and Troy by Adèle Giras (Harcourt) in fiction; Rocks in His Head by Carol Otis Hurst, illus. by James Stevenson (Greenwillow), and Uncommon Traveler: Mary Kingsley in Africa by Don Brown (Houghton) in nonfiction; and Five Creatures by Emily Jenkins, illus. by Tomek Bogacki (FSG/Foster), and The Stray Dog by Marc Simont (HarperCollins) in picture books.
