The Getty Museum has amalgamated its three publishing imprints—Getty Museum Publications, Getty Research Institute and Getty Conservation Institute—into a single entity, Getty Publications, under the direction of publisher Christopher Hudson.
"We have been in the process of centralizing, " said Hudson, "with an eye to increasing efficiencies of scale." Under the centralized publishing program, the design, production and marketing functions have also been brought under Hudson's control, having previously operated separately for all three imprints.
Last year, the Getty published 40 new titles, 80% of which were from the Museum imprint. "I do not expect to increase the number of titles we produce per year," said Hudson. "I do hope to even out the number of titles from each imprint, so that 25 to 30 titles a year are from the Museum, and the Institutes each produce five titles a year."
