Bob Michel, who joined Time Warner Trade Publishing in December 2000 as director of international sales, has been named v-p for international sales. Michel succeeds the late John Lyon, who died in May (News, June 11); Lyon had recruited Michel to TWTP. He will be based in New York and will be responsible for all areas that had reported to Lyon.
Michel began his publishing career in the international division of Simon & Schuster before moving to Bantam Books as export sales manager. After Bertelsmann acquired Doubleday and Dell, Michel became director of international sales and a director of BDD's South African company, and was appointed v-p of international in 1988. There, he also supervised BDD's Spanish-language program in the U.S. and overseas.
In announcing Michel's promotion, TWTP president Maureen Egen cited his "extraordinary abilities within the international arena."
