Suspense author Robert Crais follows the success of last year's bestselling Demolition Angel (his first standalone, following his eight widely praised Elvis Cole novels) with Hostage, which was published by Doubleday on August 7 (copies in print: 112,000 after four printings). The one-time TV scriptwriter (Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Miami Vice, etc.) is currently doing a 15-city tour, with a Today appearance scheduled for August 31. The publisher's marketing campaign has covered a number of bases—500 copies of Hostage given away on New York's tony Hampton Jitney on August 10, national radio ads the week of August 13 and a feature interview with Crais in the August 16 issue of Time Out New York. And we've by no means seen the last of this Hostage, as film rights have already been bought by MGM and Bruce Willis—guess who'll be starring?
