Adams Media Corporation, a New England based publisher specializing in business, self-help and technology titles, is growing in more ways than one. Last month it relocated its offices from Holbrook, Mass., to Avon, Mass., a move that more than doubled its office space from 9,000 to 20,000 square feet. Earlier this month, the company moved its warehouse from a 48,000-square-foot facility in Hanover, Mass., to a 65,000-square-foot space in Fall River, Mass.
New Adams Media COO Scott Watrous told PW, "Bob [Adams] has made a commitment to growing the business and growing the company. In the last seven months, seven people have moved here to be part of Adams Media." In addition to Watrous himself, who was originally with Random House, recent hires include Amy Collins, director of sales and marketing, formerly with Prima, and Gary Krebs, editorial director, formerly with Rodale. Watrous anticipates adding more staff over the coming months, especially in marketing and sales, "particularly in the area of telemarketing. If anything, the company was underdistributed."
This year, Adams Media plans to publish 120 books, but, said Watrous, "next year our business plan includes increasing our title count. We will be increasing series, particularly the Everything books" a series of how-to titles. Currently, series titles account for about 65% of Adams Media's publishing efforts, while single titles make up the balance. In addition to continuing to strengthen its bestselling Everything series, the company will relaunch its Streetwise business how-to series in 2002.
