In a move she specifically linked to the recent departure of Penguin Putnam president Phyllis Grann, executive editor Stacy Creamer announced she would also be leaving the company. Unlike Grann, however, she announced a destination: Doubleday Broadway, where she will be executive editor, reporting to editor-in-chief Bill Thomas.
There were suggestions that Grann's surprise departure last week was linked to strained relationships with parent company Pearson, and Creamer commented that "I think it wasn't smart of them [Pearson] to make it a situation where someone like Phyllis would leave." Creamer began as Grann's assistant 18 years ago; asked if the relationship with Pearson played a part in Creamer's decision to leave, she said, "I would say yes."
In her new role, Creamer, who has been particularly noted for her sports titles will acquire fiction for Doubleday and nonfiction for Broadway. She declined to say what authors she might take with her.
