(Measured in $ sales against same time periods, 2000) The trade book segment may not be headed for such an awful 2001 after all. Sales in the adult hardcover segment rose 11.5% in November, while trade paperback sales were ahead 14.9%, according to preliminary estimates from the AAP. The November gains brought the adult categories closer to breakeven with 2000, with hardcover sales down 1.7% and trade paperback sales off 4.1% for the 11-month period. In the children's segment, the action has moved to the paperback side, where sales were up 8.7% in the month, due in part to the movie release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Children's hardcover sales fell 27.1%. The big winner in November was the audio segment, where sales increased 49%, helped in part by various Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter titles; sales from January through November were down 13.1%. Sales in the mass market paperback segment were down 24.7% in the month, and were off 0.3% in the year to date. | ||
