It's that time of year again, when holiday food binges turn into diet resolutions. Books in that vein are picking up speed and the leader of the pack is Bob Greene's Get with the Program: Getting Real About Your Weight, Health and Emotional Well Being. The Simon & Schuster book lands in the top spot after less than a week in the stores. Its energy booster was a full hour on Oprah on January 3, the pub date. Greene also did a 20-city radio tour and a Today appearance. Copies in print after three trips to press: 250,000.
Back on the list is another Oprah colleague, Art Smith (he's her chef; Greene is her trainer). Smith's Back to the Table: The Reunion of Food and Family is still at the 310,000 print level. Hyperion reports that when Oprah re-aired her show with Smith December 31, sales increased 180% to 430% at most major accounts.
