For the third volume of his bestselling Commanders series, Shadow Warriors: Inside the Special Forces, Tom Clancy teamed with Gen. Carl Stiner (Ret.), former head of the Special Forces, to chronicle that elite fighting force's storied history. The publicity tour began with a three-hour live interview on C-Span's BookTV show In Depth and continued with interviews on Today, The O'Reilly Report, Wolf Blitzer, American Morning with Paula Zahn, Fox News Live, the History Channel's Hardcover History, an MSNBC special and a 15-city TV satellite tour. Clancy and Stiner did radio satellite tours for both ABC and Westwood One, and appeared on the nationally syndicated Jim Bohannon Show. Profiles of the authors ran in USA Today, Book magazine and on the Military.com site. Major national print, TV and online ads appeared the week of publication (Feb. 4). The authors' signing venues included Barnes & Noble in Baltimore, Borders in Arlington, Va., the Exchanges at both Andrews Air Force Base (Maryland) and Henderson Hall (Virginia); they also discussed the book at New York City's CUNY Graduate Center and at the Smithsonian. Putnam reports 400,845 copies in print.
