The exodus of editors from the publishing side of the negotiating table continues.
Pocket Book senior editor Tracy Sherrod is decamping S&S after four years to set up her own literary agency. The new agency will be called Tracy Sherrod Literary Services. Sherrod is launching the agency with Beverly Williams, a business partner with a background in magazine publishing.
In keeping with the new style of agents who work harder for authors than they have traditionally, the agency will offer a variety of services: "errands, typists, last minute whatever," Sherrod said, "anything they need." Sherrod said that Tony Clark, who formerly worked in marketing at Holt, is also joining the new firm to direct those author services. Sherrod is leaving Pocket Books because of "how the books I've edited have been received in the marketplace," she said. "I've had some success, and now I want to speed up the pace of bringing books to market." Sherrod has worked with such authors as Zane, Ellis Cose, Walter Mosley, Donna Hemans, Tananarive Due and the estate of Tupac Shakur.
The new agency will have offices on West 86th Street. The phone number is (212) 369-6785.
