We are talking about America's "Queen of Suspense," Mary Higgins Clark, who can now claim 24 bestsellers, plus two others co-written with daughter Carol. Her latest, Daddy's Little Girl, got a rave starred review in PW and lands right on top of our chart within 10 days of its on-sale date, April 16. Simon & Schuster launched the book with a one-million-copy first printing. Her last #1 hardcover, On the Street Where You Live, occupies the #1 spot on our mass market list this week. The Pocket Books edition has 1.8 million copies in print after three trips to press. S&S estimates that there are more than 70 million copies of her books sold in the U.S. That's a strong enough figure for the publisher to reissue Clark's very first book, a biographical novel about George Washington. Aspire to the Heavens was originally published in 1969 by Meredith Press. It will be released on June 18 by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association and Simon & Schuster under a new name, Mount Vernon Love Story, and with a hefty 350,000 first printing.
