Hoping to take advantage of its well-known magazine brands, French media conglomerate Hachette Filipacchi has announced it will launch a U.S. book imprint in the fall.
Hachette owns several magazines in the U.S., most notably Elle and Premiere. The books will bundle original as well as repurposed magazine content and will be published under the magazine brands. Hachette's French book publishing operation releases about 25 titles per year; most derive from the magazines. The inaugural list in the U.S. will contain four titles, two using the Premiere name and two using Elle.
Dorothee Walliser, who previously served as associate publisher in the U.S. for French publisher Assouline, has been named associate publisher and will run the U.S. office. She will report to Marie-Françoise Audouard, publisher of Editions Filipacchi in Paris, and will also work closely with magazine and brand executives stateside.
