(Measured in $ sales against same time periods, 2001) A first quarter cannot get much better for the trade book segments than the period posted for the first quarter of 2002. According to estimates from the AAP, sales were up by double-digit amounts in all segments. The largest gain was in adult hardcover, where sales were up nearly 61% over the first quarter of 2001, while children's hardcover sales had a 47.8% increase. Trade paperback sales were up almost 25%, and children's paperback sales increased 31.2%. Mass market paperback sales were ahead 20.5%. University presses had a weak quarter, particularly in hardcover, where sales fell 10.2%. Sales also fell in the elhi segment, dropping 7.6%. | ||
