To promote electronic reading, the Open e-Book Forum is sponsoring Open an E-book Week from August 5 to August 11, an event that will feature free and discounted e-book downloads. Nicholas Bogaty, executive director of OeBF, said he hopes the event will "inspire anyone who hasn't tried an e-book yet to open one and discover their value."
The promotion will feature the entire Ernest Hemingway collection in digital format, to be released this week from Simon & Schuster; a free download in Microsoft Reader format of the bestselling Glimmers by Robert Jordan; and a promotion by Walker & Co. and Palm Digital Media offering a free download of Rita Emmett's The Procrastinator's Handbook.
The promotion also includes deep retail discounts on more than 40 e-book titles from major publishers, among them Ash Wednesday, A Love of My Own, Slander, Coraline and The Winner. The titles will be available in a variety of formats. Participating retailers include Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, eBooks.com, Palm Digital Media, Gemstar and Previewport.
