Minneapolis/St. Paul has jumped on the city-wide reading- program bandwagon with its Twin Cities One Book celebration, which began earlier this month. The campaign, aimed at bringing adult and young-adult readers together, has chosen Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Metronet, the Twin Cities' metropolitan library organization, is piloting the project in conjunction with its nine metro public library systems.
Paulsen, who grew up in Minnesota, will speak at the Children's Theater in Minneapolis on October 25 and 26, and he will also participate in online book chats sponsored by Hennepin County Public Library.
Earlier this year, the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Ill., chose Paulsen's books for its inaugural reading campaign.
