BookExpo America has announced that its Saturday night entertainment guest will be Ellen DeGeneres, the comedian and former sitcom star, who will perform a stand-up routine. DeGeneres, also a bestselling author, will have a new book of essays published by Simon & Schuster in the fall. The event will benefit the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression and Get Caught Reading.
Chris Finan, head of ABFFE, said in a statement, "Given Ms. DeGeneres's exceptional talent and wit, it's no wonder that she's performed to sold-out audiences throughout the world." BEA is still searching for the right author for the opening night event. In recent years it has featured celebrities such as Rudolph Giuliani, Tom Wolfe and Sammy Sosa.
