Ingrid Selberg, who has held a number of executive positions in children's publishing over the last several years, has been named publishing director of children's books at Simon & Schuster U.K. She takes over from Martina Challis, who launched the division in 1999 and announced at the end of last year that she would be leaving.
Selberg was most recently at Gullane Entertainment; before that, she worked at Pleasant Company International, HIT Entertainment and Reed Consumer Books. She has particular expertise in character publishing and licensing, having worked with such brands as Thomas the Tank Engine, Angelina Ballerina and Bob the Builder. At S&S she'll have responsibility for the children's list, which will continue to be a mix of titles originating in the U.S. and original U.K. publications, which she will work to expand. She will report to S&S managing director Ian Chapman, and will start at the beginning of February.
