A year into the tenure of CEO Don Linn, Consortium Distribution has announced a number of new clients, most notably a high-profile former Publishers Group West house, Seven Stories Press.
New York City—based Seven Stories had been with PGW for nearly a decade, but publisher Dan Simon said the alignment of political philosophy (Seven Stories is a left-wing publisher, and Consortium has several similar houses in its stable), along with the placement he will get on the Consortium list, helped persuade him to make the change.
A number of other houses are joining Simon at Consortium, including Soho Press (formerly handled by FSG; the publisher's sales force had recently been rolled into von Holtzbrinck and Soho was looking for new distribution); Common Courage Press, a former LPC client and another politics-oriented press; startups Monkfish and Ooligan; the U.K.'s Methuen; and, in the U.S., Ig, Corvus and Archipelago.
Simon said the AMS purchase of PGW was not a factor behind his move to Consortium. It's believed, however, that Seven Stories will get a sweeter distribution deal from Consortium than it did at PGW.
