After eliminating four of its 15 positions in February (News, Mar. 3), the struggling children's book publisher North-South Books has eliminated another five jobs. The publisher is now down to a core group of six headed by managing director Matt Navarro.
Navarro said that after examining North-South's sales prospects for the year he decided it was necessary to make further cuts. In addition to eliminating the five positions, North-South is putting its SeaStar Books imprint up for sale and is moving to smaller offices. SeaStar, which primarily publishes illustrated books, has a backlist of about 85 titles. The company will continue to release titles under the flagship North-South Books imprint as well as Cheshire Studios. Navarro said the number of titles it will publish this fall and next year has not yet been set.
