Perseus Books Group has separated the management of its sales and marketing operations. John Whalen, who, along with Matty Goldberg, had been jointly running the sales force since its formation late last year, has been promoted to v-p, group sales director, while Goldberg has been named v-p, group associate publisher.
Under the reorganization, Whalen assumes responsibilities for sales in all channels for all Perseus imprints. Whalen will remain based in Philadelphia at Perseus's Running Press division, where he will report to Al Struzinski, Running Press COO. No changes in the sales force are planned, and the national sales force will continue to be based in New York, with Whalen now in charge.
Goldberg is leaving his sales duties behind and will focus entirely on developing marketing strategies for the Perseus group. He will report directly to Perseus CEO Jack McKeown. "The separation of the marketing and sales responsibilities will allow the company to expand in many new directions," said Struzinski.
