Although the illustrated book market is supposed to be in a funk, there's no shortage of publishers expanding their efforts in the category. Merrell Publishers is the latest.
The 10-year-old, London-based art book publisher is opening a New York City office in an effort to be that much closer to its American customers and to the New York art world and book publishing industry.
Joan Brookbank has been named U.S. director of operations, and Bob Lemstrom-Sheedy has been named publicity director.
Publisher Hugh Merrell said sales at his company have grown each year, and he projected $3 million in annual sales for the next financial year. He said the office and the new appointments would "play a crucial role in supporting our extensive relationships with U.S. museums, galleries, booksellers and authors."
