It's certainly no surprise to anyone on Planet Earth that Hillary Clinton's new memoir, Living History, tops all charts nationwide. The hoopla attending the numbers is well known by now—estimated sales of about 600,000 in the book's first week on sale. This bestseller pundit believes that it's the fastest-selling adult hardcover, though expectations that the newest Harry Potter will eclipse this record-breaking figure are widespread. Totals at just the three national chains—B&N, Borders and Waldenbooks—topped 203,000 copies, and many independents reported triple-digit sales. Simon & Schuster has done seven printings thus far, with about 1.6 million copies in print. It was certainly the book story of the week, with Hillary front and center on TV, radio and in print.
