A recent tie-in success from Disney Publishing Worldwide has been its series of Lizzie McGuire titles, based on the Disney Channel show. The company has more than 2.5 million Lizzie books in print, released through Hyperion's Disney Press and Volo imprints, including 460,000 copies of the top title, Totally Crushed. One novelty title scheduled for fall is Orchids and Gumbo Poker Club, which, according to Ellen Morgenstern, director of communications, re-creates an imaginary book title that figured in one of the Lizzie TV episodes and was sought after by fans. A series of original Lizzie mysteries will debut in 2004.
Another up-and-coming Disney Channel property is Kim Possible, a television series about a high school cheerleader who fights crime in her spare time, which has 500,000 tie-in books in print to date. Wal-Mart recently announced a Kim Possible promotion, of which books will be a part.
