John Wiley & Sons Canada Ltd., is partnering with print and broadcast news agency Canadian Press on a book publishing program that will combine quickie books on current events with more traditional titles that draw on CP's extensive archives.
The quick-to-market books will be along the lines of Canada Gold, which CP published following gold medal performances by Canada's Olympic hockey teams. The traditional titles will include biographies of famous Canadians and accounts of historic Canadian events. The program will release about eight to 12 books a year, beginning in January.
CP has published a smattering of books in the past, including professional titles for journalists, such as The Canadian Press Stylebook, as well as a few trade books developed in cooperation with other publishers. "The Canadian Press has been telling the Canadian story for over 80 years," said CP president Eric Morrison. "With John Wiley & Sons, we now have an experienced and professional book publishing partner that knows the book business and has a tremendous distribution in Canada and around the world."
