A 6% increase in sales in the four-color educational market helped offset declines in other segments at Von Hoffmann Corp., resulting in a slight decline in total revenue in the third quarter, to $107.2 million from $108.1 million. The printer had a net loss of $374,000 in the period, compared to net income of $249,000 in last year's third period. Von Hoffmann said sales were particularly soft in its two-color computer and government segments.
For the nine-month period, sales to Von Hoffmann's four-color educational market rose 2%, and the company also had gains to the supplementary educational and four-color non-educational market. Total sales for the nine months were up 0.8%, to $305.3 million, and the company had earnings of $2.1 million compared to a net loss of $3.3 million in the first nine months of 2002.
