There are many political pundits who will claim they have heard this country's presidents spout fiction in their public addresses, but until now, no first executive has actually published a book of fiction. Jimmy Carter leads the way with
The Hornet's Nest: A Novel of the Revolutionary War, which lands on PW's chart in #11 spot. Simon & Schuster's first printing is 250,000. Carter is enjoying lots of visibility with his bestseller and has already done nationals like The Today Show, The Early Show and Charlie Rose, with many more to come, including Jay Leno and Larry King (both airing December 9). He is in the midst of an 11-city tour that ends in his home state, in Atlanta, Ga., on December 12.
