...a spot on the national bestseller charts, judging from the success of Through the Lens: National Geographic Greatest Photographs, published in October by National Geographic Books. The lavish, 504-page work, which is hovering just below PW's top 15, features 250 images from NG's archive (some 10.5 million photos). Trade books marketing director Ruth Chamblee reported that, in trying to make this "the gift book of the year, we needed a low price point to make it accessible to the most people." The $30 tag was achieved by partnering with 19 other publishers around the world and doing a massive co-printing in 20 languages. After three trips back to press, the book's in-print total worldwide is 500,000, of which 200,000 are in English.
