The only new nonfiction hardcover bestseller this week is the memoir of rehabilitated football bad boy Lawrence Taylor, LT: Over the Edge: Tackling Quarterback, Drugs, and a World Beyond Football. HarperCollins kicked off the campaign with an interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes (November 30). There are more than 70,000 copies in print after eight trips to press. The Wallace interview elevated the show to #2 in the ratings for the week (the highest-rated 60 Minutes in three years). For three 14-hour days (December 3—5), Taylor appeared on other national shows—CNN-TV's Paula Zahn Now; Howard Stern's radio show; and Sean Hannity's radio show on ABC and his television show, Hannity and Colmes on Fox News. Taylor signed 919 books at Bookends in Ridgewood, N.J., on Thursday, December 4, and despite the big Northeast snowstorm (Friday, December 5), he signed 439 books at the Barnes & Noble at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan.
