The phrase "give me a break" has lately taken on a whole new popularity, thanks to the 20/20 segments in which consumer reporter John Stossel sounds off on a wide variety of daily annoyances—crooked schemes, abuses, etc. Now he's firing back at his detractors in a HarperCollins book (on-sale date: January 20) entitled—what else?—
Give Me a Break: How I Exposed Hucksters, Cheats, and Scam Artists and Became the Scourge of the Liberal Media. Stossel, winner of 19 Emmy Awards, has also been seen on many of his own TV specials, which began in 1994 (the most recent was January 23). Not surprisingly, his promotional calendar is jam-packed—in addition to his current nine-city tour, his media gigs have included Good Morning America (two segments), The View, Court TV's Catherine Crier Live, The O'Reilly Factor, an ABC radio and TV satellite tour, etc. After seven trips to press, the book's in-print total stands at 150,000.
