The New York—based professional publisher Springer Publishing Company has been acquired by Mannheim Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of the Mannheim Trust. Terms were not disclosed. The purchase is Mannheim's first venture into publishing, and it will operate the company as an independent entity.
Springer Publishing was founded in 1950 and has been headed since 1970 by Ursula Springer, who remains president and publisher. Sheri W. Sussman and Matt Fenton will continue to oversee editorial and operations/production, respectively, as senior vice-presidents.
Springer Publishing focuses on books and journals in the health sciences, publishing in such fields as nursing, gerontology, public health, psychology and social work. It publishes 17 journals annually and 60 to 65 books.
