After a seven-year sabbatical from the book industry, former American Booksellers Association executive director Bernie Rath has joined Trident Press International as v-p for sales and marketing. Rath noted that before he became involved with trade associations—he headed the Canadian Booksellers Association from 1979 to 1984, when he joined the ABA—he had been national sales manager for Macmillan of Canada. "I'm returning to my roots," Rath said. "It's a wonderful opportunity for me with a perfectly sized press," he noted.
Based in Naples, Fla., Trident specializes in publishing backlist reference books as well as illustrated cookbooks and facsimile classics in both fiction and nonfiction. Trident's books are sold on a nonreturnable basis. In addition to selling to bookstores and distributors, nontraditional outlets and the international market are major channels for Trident. The company's titles are available in a number of languages, including Russian, Chinese, Dutch, German and Italian, and Rath sees the potential for more international growth.
