The shortlists for the prestigious Carnegie and Greenaway Medals in the U.K. have been released. Contenders for the Carnegie Medal are: David Almond for The Fire Eaters (Hodder); Jennifer Donnelly for A Gathering Light (Bloomsbury); Mark Haddon for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (David Fickling); Elizabeth Laird for The Garbage King (Macmillan); Michael Morpurgo for Private Peaceful (HarperCollins); and Linda Newberry for Sisterland (David Fickling).
Those up for the Kate Greenaway Medal are: Anthony Browne for The Shape Game (Doubleday); Alexis Deacon for Beegu (Hutchinson); Debi Gliori for Always and Forever , written by Alan Durant (Doubleday); Mini Grey for The Pea and the Princess (Cape); Shirley Hughes for Ella's Big Chance (Bodley Head); Dave McKean for The Wolves in the Walls , written by Neil Gaiman (Bloomsbury); Bee Willey for Bob Robber and Dancing Jane , written by Andrew Matthews (Cape); and Chris Wormell for Two Frogs (Cape).
The winners of the two medals will be announced on July 9 at the British Library in London.
