Nonprofit environmental publisher the Mountaineers Books in Seattle, Wash., will handle worldwide distribution for a new publishing imprint from another nonprofit, High Country News Books in Paonia, Colo. The first book under the new arrangement has just been released: Give and Take: How the Clinton Administration's Public Lands Offensive Transformed the American West, edited by Paul Larmer, executive director of the High Country Foundation.
Diamond Book Distributors has just signed Overdue Media LLC, publisher of Bill Barnes and Gene Ambaum's comic strip Unshelved, set in, yes, a public library.
The American Wholesale Booksellers Association, which represents both trade and library wholesalers, elected a new slate of officers at its annual meeting in New York City. Sandy Jaffe, CEO of Booksource, was reelected president and Jim Bobak, manager of book acquisitions at Brodart, was elected vice-president. Michael Raymond, partner at the distributors, will continue as treasurer.
