Janet Evanovich's 10th book, Ten Big Ones, lands at the top of the fiction charts during its first week in the stores—happily, the same week as the Clinton bonanza. Still, getting to #1 was a feat that she has accomplished with four of her last books. Her first-five-day total at the three chains—Barnes & Noble, Borders and Waldenbooks—is more than 48,000. And while that is only 17% of Clinton's take, Evanovich's sales figures have consistently been tracking upward. St. Martin's attributes her largest opening-week sales to the additional store traffic and equally to her loyal fans. The publisher released the new title with a one-million-copy first printing, its highest yet for a Stephanie Plum. Evanovich's last fiction hardcover, To the Nines, had a 750,000-copy first printing and a nine-week run on the hardcover charts. Audio Renaissance is also reporting increased sales for the Ten Big Ones audio and unabridged CD, noting a respective 25% and 70% increase over To the Nines.
To bring more attention to the audio editions, Audio Renaissance is sponsoring a Plumtastic CD Summer Giveaway: 10 lucky listeners will find a plum-colored CD in their package of Ten Big Ones. Those 10 listeners will each receive a portable CD player and be entered into a drawing to win $10,000.
