Maria Donohoe, U.S. publishing manager for Lonely Planet, died of cardiac arrest last month, several weeks before she was to return to work following maternity leave. She was 40. Donohoe graduated from Hastings College of Law in 1990 and began her career as a research editor at Continuing Education of the Bar in Berkeley, Calif. After serving as a freelance editor with James Publishing and then at Diablo magazine, she joined Lonely Planet as an editor in 1999 before being promoted to publishing manager.
