Kristina Peterson has been named to succeed Carolan Workman as director of international publishing at Workman Publishing. Carolan, wife of company president Peter Workman and a long-time force on the foreign rights scene, is leaving to work on unspecified projects both within and outside the international publishing community. She will work with Peterson through November.
Although Peterson's last two positions were in children's publishing, at Random House and Simon & Schuster, she had previously headed Random's Fodor's Travel Publications unit and was CEO of Dorling Kindersley. She left S&S in Janaury 2003.
The departure of Carolan Workman is likely to further stoke thoughts about the company's next phase. Carolan and Peter have long been believed to be working toward a plan of continuity, and appointed daughter Katie associate publisher last year. But Peter Workman has shown few signs of slowing down his active role.
