Phyllis Tickle, former religion editor of PW and most recently contributing editor in religion, has resigned.
Tickle, a former publisher, author of some two dozen books and a highly regarded expert in religion and religion publishing, oversaw the magazine's religion department from 1992 to 1995, beginning a period when PW greatly expanded its coverage of the rapidly growing category. After 1995, Tickle continued to contribute her expertise to the department as she pursued a writing and speaking schedule. She said, "Being able to be a part of the book industry is always a privilege, but being in it during these 12 golden years for religion publishing has been a special pleasure. I'm grateful to PW for making that possible, and for giving me the opportunity to work with so many gifted and inspired publishers, writers, booksellers and librarians."
Executive editor Daisy Maryles, who brought Tickle on board as religion editor, said, "Her keen insight, wisdom and passion put PW's religion coverage on the national map."
