Two mid-size religion book publishers have made new appointments in their editorial ranks.
Paraclete Press in Orleans, Mass., announced that on November 1 Jon Sweeney will join the house in the newly created post of associate publisher. Sweeney is currently v-p of marketing and sales for Jewish Lights Publishing and editor-in-chief of SkyLights Paths Publishing, a sister imprint of Jewish Lights.
Sweeney, who will report to Paraclete CEO Lillian Miao, will join Paraclete as it prepares to launch a new series next year. Many Mansions will be a trade religion line that examines how the teachings of other faiths have had an impact on Christianity. The first title, due out in February, will be about Sufism. Three additional titles are set for fall 2005 and the company plans to do about six annually.
Chicago, Ill., publisher Moody Publishers has promoted Mark Tobey to the new post of editor-in-chief and associate publisher, a move that puts him in charge of all of Moody's editorial and acquisition operations. Tobey, who now reports to v-p Greg Thornton, has been at Moody for two years as director of acquisitions.
