The Association of American Publishers is providing the National Endowment for the Arts with a $19,000 grant to help the foundation spread the word about the findings in its "Reading at Risk" study.
The money will be used to reprint the report—which found a dramatic decline in reading—and copies will be given to all participants in a series of presentations the NEA is holding to discuss the implications of the study. Among the presentations set for November are ones before the Modern Library Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.
The AAP is also working with the NEA to establish more "city reads" programs, and to develop book-focused public service announcements.
