Michael Hyatt continues to reorganize Thomas Nelson's executive management team, appointing Tami Heim to the newly created post of executive v-p and chief publishing officer, while shifting the former group publisher of the Christian book group to the new post of chief marketing officer. As part of the restructuring, Philip Stoner, who had been executive v-p and group publisher for the Bible and reference group, resigned late last month.
Heim, who will join Nelson in January, was president of Borders from 2000 until her resignation in February. At Nelson, Heim will have responsibility for all of the company's publishing divisions, including both the book and the Bible and reference operations. According to Nelson executive v-p Joe Powers, Heim will help with product development and creation at the divisions, as well as coordinate the different imprints' publishing programs. The heads of the publishing units, who had reported to Hyatt, will now report to Heim.
In conjunction with Heim's appointment, Nelson announced that Jerry Park has been made chief marketing officer, with the mandate to create a single marketing group for all Nelson products. Currently, Nelson has one marketing department for its book group and one for its Bibles and reference products. Powers said the reorganization will better allow Nelson to "put the dollars where they need to be."
The appointments of Heim and Park follow the hiring of Mark Schoenwald in July as chief sales officer, a job that puts him in charge of all of Nelson's sales operations. Schoenwald, like Heim and Park, who are now in charge of Nelson's publishing and marketing groups, respectively, reports to Hyatt.
